What is 3D modeling?
3D modeling is the modern way of sculpting objects, using special softwares and a virtual space instead of scalpel and hammer, which makes it faster and less dusty.
It is the process of representing a three-dimensional objectin a mathematical way.
The models are then used in various fields, such as architecture or civil engineering, videogames, animation, simulation, but they can even be printed.

You can use the software you prefer for making your 3D models, there’s a bunchof them, that is why we prepared for you some tutorialsthrough which you could discover some of them.
The non-exhaustive list below shows some of the most used ones (green color stands for free software).
These programs will produce a 3D model file in different formats, such as STL, OBJ, WRL consult the list of the file formats we support in order to have your object printed!

Each 3D modeling program use a different approach on modeling, among which we could name:
Polygonal modeling: a series of points in the three-dimensional space are connected in order to form a Polygon
Curve modeling: different curves define the surfaces
Digital sculpting
Non-uniform rational B-spline (NURBS): control points determine the shape of the surfaces
Constructive solid geometry: boolean operators indicate which objects to combine in order to create a more complex one
Implicit surface: it refers to surfaces defined by the means of a mathematical equation in Euclidean space
Subdivision surface: allows representing smooth surfaces with a recursive process subdividing each face of the base polygon into smaller faces
